Synopsis
On Solum, Ascensia has been defeated. Gwyn and Ilthuran watch as she’s taken away by guards. Ascensia realizes she’s drawn the attention of the Loom. Ilthuran tells Gwyn she’s needed, and to go. She beams onto the Protostar bridge. There she joins Wesley Crusher, Jankom Pog, Murf, Zero, Dal R’El, Chakotay, Hologram Janeway, Maj’el and Bribble. Wes says that while the wormhole will work. However, he was counting on getting the Protostar through it and closing the loop before the Loom arrived. But Maj’el notes autopilot won’t be enough to get the ship through the swarm. The real Janeway contacts them from the USS Voyager-A and says they’ll cover the Protostar’s journey. On Solum, Ilthuran helps guards fight back against the Loom.
As the Protostar approaches the wormhole, Zero can hear all of the Loom. Voyager flies alongside Protostar and covers it. Dal tells Wes he was right about them all needing to be together. But Wes reveals the reason he saw that it requires them to be together is further into the future still. Wes says “wondrous and terrible things” are yet to come for Dal. But Dal will have to wait to see. Voyager is assisted with navigating through the Loom by Gillian. However, both ships finally make it through. The Loom thin out and disappear. Temporal echoes of the Protostar can be seen as the timelines reintegrate. Hologram Janeway says it’s her time to be erased. She can’t have any memory of this when the kids find the ship at Tars Lamora in “Lost and Found.” But Chakotay says, “Not yet.” The Doctor contacts them and reveals he’s copied Hologram Janeway’s programming to the EMS backup system. She resets her program and vanishes.
The rest of the crew prepares to leave. Rok says, “She’s just like we found her.” But Dal tells them to wait. He places the comm badge Rok found when they first came aboard. They wish the Protostar goodbye and beam out. The Voyager pulls away and leaves the wormhole. Meanwhile, a montage of flashback clips recounts the journey our heroes have undertaken with the Protostar. An extended flashback to the first episode shows Rok activating the universal translator we now know was placed by Dal.![]()

As Voyager leaves the wormhole, the Loom retreat from the prime timeline. Wes confirms the time loop is closed. With the paradox resolved, Gwyn’s temporal stabilizer armband deactivates and falls off. The Voyager crew travels to Solum’s surface and makes first contact. Ascensia’s tech is placed in crates and sent to the Daystrom Institute. Beverly Crusher gets a call from Wes. Then he shows up in person. She introduces him to a young, offscreen Jack Crusher. On the Voyager, The Doctor reads his new Holo-Novel, The Mentor, to a patient. In voice over, Janeway says, “There are always new chapters ahead, even when you think your story is finished.” Chakotay takes the center seat. Meanwhile, a shuttle carrying Janeway lands at her farmhouse.
At Starfleet Academy, Dr. Erin is giving the final Temporal Mechanics 101 lecture to a class that includes Dal. Soon, we see the Protostar crew (including Maj’el) enjoying First Contact Day celebrations on the Academy lawn. But they’re interrupted by the announcement that there’s been an attack at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards on Mars. Janeway’s gardening is interrupted by the arrival of a shuttle carrying Chakotay. He tells her she’s needed due to the attack on Mars. At Starfleet Command, Edward Jellico says Starfleet has been asked to discontinue exploration and the Romulan evacuation. Janeway objects, but Jellico emphasizes the fact that they’re in dire straits. When Janeway further protests, Jellico says that the future will have to wait.
Classes at the Academy are indefinitely suspended the the Protostar crew lament the unfair situation. But they’re interrupted by Janeway calling them to the Academy shipyards. They arrive and find the USS Prodigy, a Protostar-class ship. Janeway reveals they have all received a field commission as Starfleet ensigns. Furthermore, they’ll be given the Prodigy to continue Starfleet’s true mission. Janeway says they’ll make a great difference somewhere.
But Janeway says the crew still has a lot to learn, and they’ll need an instructor. To this end, they’ll have an updated version of Hologram Janeway. There’s a station for Maj’el as well as the rest of the crew. And there are two center seats: one for the first officer. Dal tells Gwyn that he will be her number one. He says he made a mistake; the chair never belonged to him. Others will lead before and after him. He says now is Gwyn’s time. She takes the seat.
We cut to the crew in uniforms on the bridge. “Let’s reach the stars,” says Gwyn as the U.S.S. Prodigy jumps into protowarp.-geekgirlauthority.com
