Synopsis
Aboard the USS Infinity at warp, Gwyn records a personal log, stardate: 61886.6. The Infinity is nearing the enigmatic coordinates. On the bridge, Gwyn works alongside Rok-Tahk, Zero and Dal R’El. She notes the journey has changed them all. She also states that being displaced from time is strange. Only her temporal stabilizer keeps her from oblivion. She says it isn’t about the journey but the destination. Rok tells Dal she’ll let him know when they get there. Dal looks forward to seeing the USS Protostar again. Jankom Pog doubts it will be there. Zero says it must be. Without it, they can’t restore the past and might lose Gwyn permanently. Infinity arrives at the coordinates.
However, they find only an asteroid field. But this is where Chakotay’s clues led. However, Rok observes that the asteroids behave as though a large object is present. Murf chatters. Gwyn wonders if the whole planet could be between temporal phases like herself. Rok technobabbles, then surmises it as a way to pull the planet out of hiding. She executes her hypothesis, and the planet appears before them. Infinity approaches the planet. It lands inside a ziggurat on the surface. One life sign is located within. They assume this will be Chakotay. Rok and Dal observe the ziggurat seems to have been built in both the past and the future. The cadets journey deeper inside. Echoes of The Travelers agreeing to abandon our timeline can be heard. Jankom calls out but there’s no response. Murf leads them to a door. Zero says it appears to be a vault from mid-20th-century Earth. Jankom prepares to break in. Instead, the door opens, revealing Wesley Crusher.
Meanwhile, aboard the USS Voyager-A, Kathryn Janeway recounts that they have traced the Infinity’s path to a transwarp conduit. She hopes the cadets are safe on the other side. The Doctor and Counselor Noum enter. They show her a Padd that recorded the sinister noise heard before Holo Gwyn was attacked. Janeway says they must track down the attacker before it locates the cadets. They’re interrupted by Admiral Edward Jellico’s message. He asks why Janeway is leaving Federation space when she’s meant to return to Earth. Jellico doesn’t care about her excuses. He says she can file a formal request with command. But Janeway won’t abandon a member of her crew. She hangs up on him. Voyager enters the conduit.
In the ziggurat, Wesley is glad all six cadets are present. He realizes it’s the first time they’ve met. He offers them sweaters. Wesley says they’re halfway to Chakotay, where they’re supposed to be going. He says he’s a guardian angel. Rok realizes who he is and geeks out a little. Wesley says he’s a time traveler who has run out of time. He seems a little scatterbrained (even by Wesley standards). Jankom suggests he’s “one nebula short of a galaxy.” Nevertheless, they follow Wesley into the next room. Wesley recounts his history with the Traveler, emphasizing the power of thought. Rok asks if they’re like the interdimensional version of Starfleet. Wesley concedes “kind of” but says they mostly do their own thing. He continues that after mastering traveling through space and time, the Travelers instructed him on when he could intervene.

Wesley explains that Travelers use a “hands-off” approach to maintain harmony between universes. However, Wesley (at this moment) does not. Wesley hands Dal a crystal and tells him not to look at it. Dal is upset that multiple universes have been thrown on top of time travel. Wesley explains further (with a visual aid). He says there’s the “prime universe,” the “Mirror Universe,” the “Narada incursion,” “Fluidic space” and the “Mycelial plane” (that one’s extra secret). Wesley says the grand tapestry is beautiful but fragile. A paradox can cause the cosmic tapestry to fray. The cadets realize the Protostar has created just such a situation. Wesley explains that they’re living in an impossible time, which continues to exist because of Infinity’s shielding. The prime universe is trying to exist in two states simultaneously. This will lead to degradation.
This is exacerbated by predators who enter universes through these tears and then feed on dying timelines. These scavengers will kill everyone in the prime universe. Wesley continues that post-Temporal Wars, there aren’t enough Travelers to do all the necessary timeline repair. Thus, the difficult Protostar paradox was determined too difficult to repair. The timeline was left to collapse. However, Wesley can’t allow this. His mom lives in this universe. Thus, he scoured infinite timelines and found one possible course of action where the universe survives. But it requires all six cadets to stick together. Questioning his competency, Dal asks if Wes has a supervisor. However, they’re interrupted. Time freezes for everyone but Gwyn, protected by her stabilizer, and Wesley. The same sound can be heard before Holo Gwyn was attacked.
Wesley grabs Gwyn and pulls her deeper into the ziggurat. He explains the Loom is pursuing them. They freeze reality so they can feed on it. However, Wes has a stabilizer, too. He has more stashed away for the rest of the crew. Wes explains they’re time aberrations so the Loom can sense them. They continue to flee. Gwyn realizes that the Loom can track them as they run, so Wes didn’t contact them directly. Fortunately, Wes has found a door in thin air that leads to a vault full of tech goodies. He pulls out the stabilizers and hands them to Gwyn. Then he seals the hidden room again. However, the Loom have nearly found them. Wes uses a psychic duplicate of Gwyn to distract the Loom momentarily. But they’re on their heels now.
Gwyn says they’re trapped. Wes says, “Trapped is only a state of mind.” Synchronizing their efforts, Gwyn and Wes push through a secret passage and return to the rest of the crew. Wes uses his psychic abilities to close the passage on the Loom after them. Unfortunately, the Loom makes their way in anyway. Phasers have no effect. Wes instructs them to put their hands on the vault door. The Loom creeps closer. Wes tells them to hang on. Moments later, they find themselves in a room decorated in the style of Earth’s 1960s.
Elsewhere, the Voyager emerges from the conduit. Re-modulating long-range scanners reveals the hidden planet. Janeway is impressed. She orders an away team to be prepped and beamed down to investigate, wondering what awaits them. Meanwhile, the Loom growls outside the ziggurat.-geekgirlauthority.com
